THE HATE U GIVE adaptation has completed casting for the Carter family!
Fresh off the success of Girls Trip, Regina Hall has signed on for an important role in the adaptation of Angie Thomas‘ The Hate U Give.
A fictional novel based on current societal tensions and the Black Lives Matter movement, The Hate U Give follows Starr Carter (Amandla Stenberg), a 16-year-old who witnesses an unarmed friend shot by police and must find the best way to speak out about the incident while living two separate lives: One at her poor but supportive neighborhood, one at her less understanding suburban prep school.
According to THR, Regina Hall will play Starr’s mother, Lisa, who plays a pivotal role in helping Starr address her feelings and take action despite criticism after the shooting.
It was announced earlier this week that Russell Hornsby will play Starr’s father, Maverick aka “Big Mav”, and Lamar Johnson will play her older half-brother, Seven.
The film is still in pre-production and doesn’t have a release date quite yet, but you can order Angie Thomas’ novel now via Amazon.
