Fans can breathe easy – THE ORIGINALS and iZOMBIE have both been renewed, the CW announced today.
The Originals and iZombie are both midseason CW shows. Before today, their fates were still up in the air, but it’s all good news here: The Originals will return for its fifth season, and iZombie for its fourth.
Of the two, The Originals was more vulnerable. Its mother series, The Vampire Diaries, will end its run this year, and there was concern that the spin-off wouldn’t be able to stand on its own. However, the show received favorable ratings, airing right after The Vampire Diaries. Stars Joseph Morgan, Daniel Gillies, Phoebe Tonkin, Charles Michael Davis, Yusuf Gatewood and Riley Voelkel and executive producers Julie Plec and Leslie Morgenstein can all breathe a collective sigh of relief.
iZombie was not in contention like The Originals was, so the renewal today will shock very few. The successful show stars Rose McIver, Malcolm Goodwin, Rahul Kohli, Robert Buckley, David Anders, and Aly Michalka. It is executive produced by Rob Thomas, Diane Ruggiero-Wright, Danielle Stokdyk, and Dan Etheridge.
As this year’s seasons for The Originals and iZombie wind down, it’s reassuring to know that we have not seen the last of these two shows.
