ROGUE ONE’s Ben Mendelsohn in Talks to Play Villain in CAPTAIN MARVEL

Ben Mendelsohn is looking to expand his list of villainous characters he’s played as he’s in talks to join CAPTAIN MARVEL.

Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, the directors of Captain Marvel, are currently in talks with Rogue One‘s Ben Mendelsohn to take on the main antagonist role. Though the character has yet to be officially announced, with Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige’s tease that the alien race Skrulls would make an appearance in the movie, the assumption could be made that Mendelsohn’s possible character would be the leader of that race.

The Skrulls are similar to that of The Avengers’ Chitauri alien race, although in the comics they are both an alias of the same race, and identified as separate. In the MCU, we’ve only seen the Chitauri. It’s unknown if the Skrulls will be labeled as Skrulls for Captain Marvel.

To further detail female-driven movie, Captain Marvel will take place in the 1990’s, and Samuel L. Jackson will reprise his role as Nick Fury and Brie Larson taking on the titular role, aka Carol Danvers.

Though Mendelsohn has been on TV and film since the 1980’s, he’s recently gained notoriety in pop culture with his role as antagonist Orson Krennic in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, along with his upcoming roles as antagonist Nolan Sorrento in 2018’s Ready Player One and antagonist Sheriff of Nottingham in yet another retelling of Robin Hood.

Captain Marvel is slated to land in theaters in the spring of 2019.
