Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials’ Rosa Salazar won’t be returning for Divergent’s Allegiant films
Rosa Salazar was at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con to help promote Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, the sequel to last year’s dystopian hit, The Maze Runner. And although she was there to promote that movie, she was asked about her role as Lynn in the Divergent franchise. It was then revealed that, according to Collider, Rosa Salazar won’t be returning for Divergent’s Allegiant films.
Rosa’s character Lynn had a more memorable part in the books than she did in the film. She was actually introduced in Divergent, but like many of the other supporting characters, they weren’t brought into the film adaptation until The Divergent Series: Insurgent.
Because of that, some of those characters didn’t have as much to contribute to the storyline as they would’ve if they’d been introduced earlier. And Lynn did play a significant role in some of the other characters’ lives, including that of one of her best friends, Marlene (played by Suki Waterhouse), and that of her younger brother, Hector (Emjay Anthony).
Now that Rosa won’t be returning, we’re wondering how much of the others we’ll actually see in the final two films, if we’ll see them at all. Much of the first two movies hardly acknowledged anyone else but the core characters, and I don’t see that changing with the Allegiant Part 1 and 2. It would’ve been nice to get a different angle, to see the affects of all this on the rest of Tris and Four’s friends, but it might be too late to include them, unless that’s the reason for splitting the final book into two.
For at this time, Rosa was the only confirmation about this that we know, and we don’t know if Summit will be replacing Rosa with someone else. Or if they’ll just downplay that character.
