A former HARRY POTTER director may be at the helm of its prequel spin-off series, FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM! Alfonso Cuaron, who directed HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN and recently won the Academy Award for GRAVITY, is reportedly in talks to direct.

Cuaron is a celebrated director, but his adaptation of PRISONER OF AZKABAN received mixed reviews from diehard book fans after taking quite a few liberties with the storyline, including nixing the Marauders storyline. However, FANTASTIC BEASTS is a story originally created for the screen, meaning there’s no backstory to change.
The first film in the FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM trilogy is due out November 18, 2016.
