Nicola Yoon‘s heartfelt YA romance The Sun Is Also A Star is headed to the big screen with the help of a director with adaptation experience.
According to THR, Ry Russo-Young, who previously directed the film version of Lauren Oliver‘s Before I Fall, is set to helm the movie, which follows the day-long New York City love story of Natasha and Daniel, the former of whom is due to be deported at the end of the day.
Grown-ish star Yara Shahidi has been cast as Natasha, with a script written by Girls Trip scribe Tracy Oliver. The rest of the cast has not been announced quite yet.
With the director announcement comes a slew of praise from Nicola Yoon:
“I’m the luckiest author alive and I couldn’t be happier about the way this project is coming together. I’m a big fan of Ry Russo-Young’s work, especially Before I Fall and Nobody Walks. She’s incredibly perceptive and smart. Her passion for this project is infectious and inspiring. I’m also thrilled for the perspective she brings as a female director.”
Yoon’s debut novel, Everything, Everything, was adapted into a film of the same name starring Amandla Stenberg and Nick Robinson in 2017.
The Sun Is Also A Star does not have a release date yet. However, you can snag the book now via Amazon.
