‘Sons of Anarchy’ fan favorite Ryan Hurst has a new gig as Beta in the ninth season of THE WALKING DEAD.
You know when your series is getting closer to its season premiere when the network makes new casting announcements one after another. AMC had already announced a few days ago that Cassady McClincy was joining The Walking Dead cast as Lydia, an important character from a new group, The Whisperers.
This time, Ryan Hurst has been announced to play Beta, the man who is, if you can’t tell by his name, second-in-command to Alpha, the leader of The Whisperers. Beta is not a very good man. In the graphic novels, he takes his loyalty to Alpha very seriously, but not only that, he is overzealous in his dedication to wear a skin “mask”, even when he’s not around any walkers. He refuses to show his face to anyone.
With that in mind, it’s unlikely we’ll see much of Hurst’s face during most of his time on the show.
Aside from Sons of Anarchy, Hurst’s other credits include A&E’s Bates Motel and WGN’s Outsiders. For those old enough to remember, he also starred in the biographical sports drama Remember the Titans as one of the team captains of the high school football team.
Season 9 of The Walking Dead premieres Sunday, October 7th on AMC.
