Scott Wilson, THE WALKING DEAD’s Hershel, Dies At 76

THE WALKING DEAD community loses a fan-favorite with the passing of Scott Wilson.

Scott Wilson, the actor who is perhaps best known as The Walking Dead‘s Hershel Greene, passed away yesterday night at age 76. His cause of death is unknown.

It was just announced yesterday at The Walking Dead’s New York Comic Con panel that Wilson, along with Jon Bernthal and Sonequa Martin-Green, will make a brief appearance in the first half of Season 9, probably in a hallucination sequence.

Wilson’s keen acting skill led the show to dive even deeper into the character’s personality and background than the comics even did, producing a beloved father and mentor figure in the process. The actor also had notable roles in In Cold Blood, The OA, CSI, and more.

AMC released this statement following the heartbreaking news:

“Scott will always be remembered as a great actor and we all feel fortunate to have known him as an even better person. The character he embodied on The Walking Dead, Hershel, lived at the emotional core of the show. Like Scott in our lives, Hershel was a character whose actions continue to inform our character’s choices to this day. Our hearts go out to his wife, his family, friends and to the millions of fans who loved him. Scott will be missed.”

Since the news only hit late last night, the cast members have not responded individually quite yet.

Rest in peace, Scott Wilson.
