Executive producer, Todd Helbing, talks about what we can expect on The Flash this season!
We wanted to know what underlying themes we will see in season five and Todd Helbing gives us the rundown of what they’re playing with this season.
“Legacy. I would say when your daughter who’s almost as old as you comes back from the future and you’re thrust into being a parent there’s a lot of questions that arise…One being what’s more important for Barry and Iris, is it us as crime fighters, is it me as The Flash, or is it us being good parents.”
This year The Flash will reach its 100th episode and Helbing wasn’t giving much away but he had this little tidbit to say.
“The 100th is our number 8 [episode] and the crossover is going to be number 9. So it gives us the opportunity to sort of still do a mid season finale ending with a twist and hopefully give something that people can chew on for a couple of months.”
We have since learned that the big bad of this season will be Cicada, played by Chris Klein. Here’s what Helbing hopes they’ve achieved this year with this villain.
“We did three speedsters in seasons 1, 2 and 3.Last year was to approach it completely differently. For me personally the meta human is less important and less interesting to be honest than the human side of the villain. I mean with DeVoe we had him approach Barry and mess with him mentally and I think this year we’re going to have s villain who’s going to mess with Barry and the team in a way physically that he just hasn’t had to deal with. When he’s fighting a speedster it’s power versus power, but this one is completely different.”
