Tor posted up the covers illustrated by Chris Wormell, both of which feature two men in a boat– presumably Lord Asriel and new protagonist Malcolm Polstead– paddling across a wild river. According to the book’s official description, Malcolm’s story is intertwined with life of young Lyra:
Eleven-year-old Malcolm Polstead and his dæmon, Asta, live with his parents at the Trout Inn near Oxford. Across the River Thames (which Malcolm navigates often using his beloved canoe, a boat by the name of La Belle Sauvage) is the Godstow Priory where the nuns live. Malcolm learns they have a guest with them; a baby by the name of Lyra Belacqua…
The US cover (exclusively released by EW) features blue tones and brings the title to center stage.
Meanwhile, the UK edition features a larger, more traditional illustrated scene complete with dæmons hanging out on the title.
Le Belle Sauvage hits bookshelves in both the US and the UK on October 19, 2017. You can pre-order the book now via Amazon.
