The Punisher and Elektra take over in new DAREDEVIL stills!
Marvel took its on-screen universe to a whole new level in April when Daredevil debuted on Netflix. The first of five series that Marvel plans to big to the streaming service, Daredevil brought out the gritter, darker, more artistic side of the superhero genre. This year, the show will up the ante with the inclusion of The Punisher and Elektra, portrayed by Jon Bernthal and Elodie Yung!
Thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we have our first look the new characters in action!
The Punisher is in full-on “take no mercy” mode, with a gun in hand and Daredevil chained to a chimney.
The article discussed the chatacter’s devil may care attitude and how it all be forced into reality throughout the season, according to showrunner Doug Petrie:
“Viewers watching the show will be rooting for this guy with a gun but we’re also going to force people — the way we force Matt — to second-guess themselves. Taking lethal justice into your own hands in America in 2015 is tricky s–t. We have not shied away from the rich complicated reality of Now. If you’ve got a gun and you’re not the police you’re going to incite strong feelings. We’re stirring the pot and we’re aware of the headlines where we live and we’re trying to get people to think.”
As fans know, the character is deeply layered. Actor Jon Bernthal says he loves the character for the same reason many fans do.
“This character has resonated with law enforcement and military. He’s brought the war home with him in the worst possible way. And the best thing about him is that if he offends you, he just doesn’t care.”
Next up, Elektra is looking sly and surprisingly relaxed in her first appearance.
This is a look into the intriguing side of Elektra, one that could lead Matt Murdock into some dark habits, according to Petrie:
“Matt’s a deeply moral complicated guy and she’s just the best bad girlfriend you can possibly have. She does everything wrong and attractive, she’s his id, the wild side. Matt is always taming his wild side. Elektra just lets it out. He’s both repulsed and deeply drawn to that.”
Of course, we’ll also be getting back some favorites from Season 1, including Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson and Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page.
Following the article, Netflix released an additional four images from the upcoming season (via ComingSoon.net)!
Daredevil will return to Netflix for Season 2 in April 2016, though an exact date has not been announced.
