The Trio has been cast for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child!
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, the sequel stage play following Albus Severus, Harry Potter’s son, and the weight of the Potter legacy on his shoulders, has finally started its casting, and today The Daily Mail revealed the casting for Harry, Ron and Hermione! And though this cast looks different than the Trio from the films, they seem like they will be equally fantastic! Check them out below:
Jamie Parker has been cast as Harry Potter:
Parker appeared on Broadway in The History Boys, and has also been on stage in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, Proof, and High Society. And his screen credits include Poirot, Holby City, Doctors and London Road.
Paul Thornley has been cast as Ron Weasley:
Thornley’s screen credits include Les Miserables, Minions, and Doctors.
Noma Dumezweni has been cast as Hermione Granger:
Dumezweni won an Oliver award, which recognizes excellence in London theatre, for A Raisin in the Sun, and her other stage credits include President of an Empty Room, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Her screen credits include Dr. Who, Macbeth, and Shameless.
The play is based on the original story by Harry Potter author, J.K. Rowling, and is written by Jack Thorne, with John Tiffany directing, who won a Tony Award for Once. Check out the official plot description below:
“It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children. While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.”
With a cast this fantastic, and J.K. Rowling herself onboard, this play is definitely going to be just as good as any other Harry Potter instalment.
