SHADOWHUNTERS to be cancelled after Season Three Finale in 2019

Freeform has decided to end the SHADOWHUNTERS’ run after the second half of season three, which returns Spring of 2019.

Yes, you heard it. The Shadowhunters series will be no more. We suppose that even though the show helped the channel through its kickoff from ABC Family to Freeform, and having diverse characters in gender, race, and sexual identity, it just wasn’t enough to move it forward for another season.

To add another kick to the gut, it looks like we won’t even be seeing them again this year.

Apparently, they’ve decided to push it back to next Spring for season 3B, which seems like a sure way to not allow the show to be picked up by another network.

This was Freeform’s statement, according to TVLine:

“We are very proud of Shadowhunters, a series that broke new ground in the genre world and became a fan favorite,” the network said in a statement. “However, along with our partners at Constantin, we reached the very difficult decision not to renew the show for a fourth season. But as big supporters and fans ourselves, Freeform insisted on and championed the filming of a special two-part finale that would give devoted fans a proper ending.”

We know how much it sounds like a contradiction to say they’re huge fans and yet cancel, but unfortunately, that’s sometimes how it is with TV shows. We are deeply saddened by this turn of events, and we’re definitely going to miss the group of actors that brought some of our favorite literary characters to the screen. We love them all, Katherine, Dominic, Matthew, Alberto, Emeraude, Isaiah, Alisha, and the rest of them, and we’re going to miss them.

We’ll keep you posted for more news as it comes.

In the meantime, just remember, those characters are still in our hearts as well as in the Shadowhunter books by Cassandra Clare that we fell in love with them in first and foremost, and continue to love them in.
