SDCC 2017 | SHADOWHUNTERS Interview with Alberto Rosende and Emeraude Toubia

We got to sit down with SHADOWHUNTERS stars Alberto Rosende and Emeraude Toubia to talk about this season and Sizzy.

Alberto Rosende and Emeraude Toubia first talk about the Sizzy moments that we’ve already seen on this past Monday’s Shadowhunters episode, “A Dark Reflection.”

Alberto stated that “things are going to get worse before they’re going to get better. We can say that these next four episodes are a whirlwind of intensity, and a lot of stuff goes down. And we can say that you’re going to see the whole Shadow world go through a lot.”

In regards to the internal character development as opposed to the physical fight scenes, Alberto said, “I think it’s helped us learn more about ourselves and about the world. It’s kinda cool looking in, you get a better vision looking out, a better understanding. Simon’s gone through a lot with himself. We discovered recently the vampire monster that’s in him is still very active.”

Emeraude voiced out how she loved those scenes with Simon. “It was so sexy! I didn’t expect the show to do that kind of stuff. It’s good!”

Rosende expanded on Izzy’s journey as well. “All of Izzy’s journey this season has been an immense thing, seeing this strong person fall and then kind of build herself back up. That’s a really cool journey to see. That’s a true hero’s journey – to have an obstacle, to face an obstacle, and have to overcome it.”

As far as Izzy’s addiction goes, Toubia doesn’t think we’ll see any further issues with that. “I think for now, she’s just building herself up. I don’t think we’re oging to see anymore of that.”

Bringing up Sizzy again, Rosende said this much. “Just like any great relationship, they build a foundation first, and I think that’s where Sizzy is right now, is building this foundation of friendship, and help and trust, and then maybe that’ll be the good starting block for when it eventually really dives in.” Not wanting to give anything completely away, he added, “Maybe! Maybe!”

When Rosende explains Simon’s current love life, Toubia rolls her eyes at his explanation of taking a break as his heart was broken. “You’ve been with how many girls!” Rosende jokingly argued his point. “Well, Simon’s very open. Very accepting person-,” but Toubia shoots back, “If you want to call it that! Poor Simon. Poor Simon.”

Joking aside, Alberto said this about Simon. “He knows the true pain of heartbreak, I think now, what it really feels like, especially when you have to let go of someone that you didn’t want to let go of.” He talked more about how Maia fits into the mix as well. “I think they find comfort in each other. But both of them are very hesitant to jump into anything.”

When asked about working with fellow cast member Will Tudor (who plays Sebastian/Jonathan), Emeraude expressed appreciation for the actor. “When you work with someone on set, sometimes you obvioulsy feel the connection, but then seeing it on camera, he’s really blown me away. He’s so good. There’s an awesome scene that I get to do with him in [episode] 2019, so I can’t wait. I just did ADR for that scene and it’s going to be sick! So I’m excited to see what he’s going to bring.”

Rosende then extended the appreciation to all the actors that have joined the cast, including Alisha Wainwright and Jade Hassoune.

Shadowhunters airs Mondays at 8pm on Freeform.
