SHADOWHUNTERS Takes Home People’s Choice Award for “Show of 2018”

Freeform’s SHADOWHUNTERS wins from People’s Choice Awards include “Bingeworthy Show of 2018.”

The Shadowhunters fans have again shown their ultimate support for this Freeform series with their votes in the People’s Choice Awards, which took place this past on Sunday night.

They brought home four awards total, with two individual awards. Harry Shum, Jr. took the award for “Best Male TV Star of 2018” for his role as the enchanting bisexual warlock Magnus Bane, for which we’re not really surprised about. This is his first time winning an award for his role in Shadowhunters, but he also has a Screen Actors Guild Award for his part in the ensemble group of Glee.

Katherine McNamara took home the award for “Best Female TV Star of 2018” for her role as the fierce and headstrong Clary Fairchild. She had definitely grown into her role since she first appeared as her character back in 2016. She had been nominated twice for a Teen Choice Award, so this is her first nomination for a People’s Choice Award and her first win.

We love the look on their faces as they thank the fans for their votes, and we hope for the best for them as they continue on with other roles. Harry was recently seen in the wildly popular movie Crazy Rich Asians, and Kat will have a recurring role in the CW’s Arrow this season.

One special note: Harry has the role of dad coming up soon as he and his wife Shelby Rabara (Steven Universe) are expecting their first child – a girl! We congratulate them and wish them all the best!

The show itself won two awards – “The Bingeworthy Show of 2018” and “The Show of 2018,” and we couldn’t be happier for them. Despite Freeform canceling the series, it doesn’t negate the fact that the fans have continuously been supportive of the cast and crew involved these past three years.

We know fans are still sending out tweets and messages on social media to #SaveShadowhunters, but we haven’t heard anything from Freeform about them changing their minds about it, even after these wins. But no matter what happens, we are thankful for the cast and crew for giving it their all, and we congratulate them all on their willingness to bring these characters to life on the small screen. We also wish them the best on all their future roles.

Shadowhunters season 3B will premiere Monday, February 25, 2019, and will finish up the last 12 Shadowhunters episodes.
