DC has found the kid counterpart to Zachary Levi’s superhero in SHAZAM!
Zachary Levi may be the almighty superhero Shazam! in DC’s upcoming comic book adaptation, but deep down, his character is just a pre-teen boy with some crazy mythical powers. Now, the studio has found Levi’s kid counterpart, according to Variety!
Asher Angel, a star of the Disney series Andi Mack, will play Billy Batson, the young’un with the ability to turn into a full-fledged adult superhero with the powers of ancient gods and heroes Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, and Mercury simply to muttering the acronym for their combined names– “Shazam!”
It’s unknown at this point just how much of Billy we’ll see in the film, as Levi’s Shazam (originally known is Captain Marvel, but that one was already taken by… well… Marvel) seems to be the central character.
The Shazam! movie is due out in 2019. DC is also developing a standalone film featuring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Shazam’s biggest nemesis, Black Adam. If both do well, we may see the characters face off in the future!
