THE SPACE BETWEEN US trailer invites you to “Find someone who changes the way you see the world!”
“What’s your favorite thing about Earth?” Gardner Elliott, portrayed by Asa Butterfield, asks in the new trailer for sci-fi adventure The Space Between Us.
Gardner is the first and only child born in the East Texas Settlement on Mars and to him, the big blue planet we live on is a glorious mystery. He can only connect with others through the Internet and it’s there that he meets Tulsa (Britt Robertson), a Colorado girl who inspires Gardner to risk everything for a chance at the normal earthly life we all take for granted.
The film takes place in a near-future sci-fi world, but it doesn’t seem all that far-fetched. After all, the movie was partially filmed at SpaceX, the company owned by Elon Musk, who just addressed the International Astronautical Congress with plans to colonize Mars within the next six years.
Though there’s human connectivity and romance at its core, this new trailer is also showing off the movie’s humor, action, and lots of Gary Oldman as Richard Branson-esque entrepreneur Nathaniel Shepherd. The end of the trailer also asks viewers to share their favorite thing about Earth with #FavoriteThingAboutEarth.
The Space Between Us flies into theaters on December 16, 2016.
