SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING adds Robert Downey Jr.

Reports surfaced today that Robert Downey Jr. will appear in next year’s Spider-Man: Homecoming!

Claiming the phenomenal chemistry between Tom Holland’s web-crawler and Robert Downey, Jr.’s Iron Man in Captain America: Civil War, Variety claims that both Marvel and Sony knew they had to bring the duo back together in the upcoming Spider-Man solo film.

While the article offers no detail as to how much of a role Downey will play in the movie, it’s the exact type of interconnected universe fans were hoping for when Disney and Sony announced the deal to bring Spider-Man into the official Marvel Cinematic Universe.

This news should be taken with a grain of salt though, because the supposed cast of Spider-Man has been in flux as of late. Last week news dropped that Michael Keaton was in talks to play a villain in the upcoming movie, but now reports are coming out that the deal fell apart.

Regardless, it definitely opens up the possibilities for other established MCU characters to show up in Homecoming. Netflix’s Daredevil delivered a fantastic Kingpin, who is a notorious antagonist to Peter Parker in the comics.

We won’t have to wait long for the answer though, as Spider-Man: Homecoming swings into theaters July 7th, 2017, and we only have to wait two weeks to see them both in Captain America: Civil War.
