STAR TREK: DISCOVERY Will Have A Female Lead

New details emerge about the STAR TREK: DISCOVERY lead!

Captains James Tiberius Kirk and Jean-Luc Picard are perhaps to two best known characters in the Star Trek universe and of course, both leads are men. But ladies are going to get a little more love in the franchise when Star Trek: Discovery begins streaming in January.

According to Variety, executive producer is set to reveal more about the character next week at the Television Critics Association summer press tour event. At Comic-Con last month, Fuller credited former Star Trek actresses Nichelle Nichols (both the first female and first African-American cast member on the show), Avery Brooks, and Kate Mulgrew as influences, as well as Mae Jamison, the first African-American female astronaut.

However, it’s interesting to note that Variety says the lead character won’t necessarily be a captain.

Star Trek: Discovery is due to set shooting in two months. The series pilot will premiere on CBS sometime in January before moving exclusively to the CBS All Access streaming service.
