STAR WARS: AFTERMATH Novel Takes Place After RETURN OF THE JEDI

Aftermath to be published September 2015

As we stated before, there is going to be a boat load of novels and comics and such relating to and centering about the storyline of the Star Wars: The Force Awakens movie, which will be released in theaters on Dember 18, 2015.  One of the first books released will be Star Wars: Aftermath.  It seems that instead of trying to put a lot of backstory into this new set of Star Wars films, they’re putting it into the books, and here’s one that apparently takes place after Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi.

Star-Wars-Aftermath-591x900Aftermath is the first book in a trilogy designed to span the timeframe between 1983’s Jedi and this year’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, introducing “a sweeping new cast of characters” that might include some important players in J.J. Abrams’ relaunch of the space opera franchise in movie theaters. “Once you’ve seen The Force Awakens in movie theaters, you may find that certain names and places in Aftermath have a relevance you never knew,” Lucas Books senior editor Jen Heddle teased.

In the novel, written by Chuck Wendig, attention will be given to the vacuum left behind following the destruction of the second Death Star and the death of the emperor. “Does everyone accept the fall of Imperial rule? Has everyone even heard the life-altering news?” Heddle asked, describing the novel as “our first canon glimpse into the state of the galaxy after the Battle of Endor.”

Aftermath is actually just the first of a trilogy that will take place during this time frame, and is scheduled to be released in September of this year, either at or around the same time as Marvel comics‘s own Star Wars stories, which shows the image of the original Star Wars characters from the end scene in RotJ.
