Star Wars searched time and space and found a Doctor, specifically the Eleventh Doctor, to join the cast of STAR WARS: EPISODE IX.
Matt Smith, who played the Eleventh Doctor on the long-running BBC sci-fi series Doctor Who, will symbolically trading in his sonic screwdriver for a lightsaber as it was announced that he’ll be joining the cast of Star Wars: Episode IX.
Before you start freaking out, we actually don’t know if he’ll be wielding a lightsaber at all, or whether he’s part of the New Republic or part of the vengeful Empire. The only thing that was announced was that Smith will be in the movie, but not much else.
Smith will be joining returning Star Wars cast members Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, John Boyega, Kelly Marie Tran, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson, and Mark Hamill. Other new castmates will include Dominic Monaghan, Keri Russell, Richard E. Grant, and Naomi Ackie. And Billy Dee Williams is be making a return to the Star Wars galaxy to reprise his role as Lando Calrissian, a character we haven’t seen Williams play since Return of the Jedi.
Matt can currently be seen as Prince Philip in Netflix’s The Crown, and will be seen as Charles Manson in the biographical crime drama movie Charlie Says.
