STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS nabs the North American box office record!

This force is strong with this one, indeed! Perhaps it’s no surprise to the fans who have seen the film many times over, but Star Wars: The Force Awakens now holds the top box office record in North America!

Wednesday sales drove Episode VII past Avatar, the previous leader on the domestic charts who stills holds on to the worldwide highest gross. The film has currently made $785 million in theaters domestically, not counting numerous product and promotion deals.

It’s important to note that the domestic box office record chart does not account for inflation throughout the years. On that chart, Star Wars: The Force Awakens ranks 21st with $1.5 billion globally behind Star Wars: A New Hope, Gone With The Wind and Titanic, among others. Of course, the new blockbuster is still going strong in the theaters, so it could easily climb up the list and continue to conquer! The global haul will depend heavily on the box office in China when it comes out next month.
