Warning: Spoilers for Stranger Things Season 3!
Season 3 of Stranger Things ended with a heartbreaking moment: After Hopper dies (or is perhaps kidnapped by Russian operatives) at the Battle of Starcourt Mall, Joyce Byers finally makes a big decision. She moves Will, Jonathan, and her new adoptee, Eleven, away from Hawkins, Indiana for good.
But as the official announcement for Season 4 teases, the path to the Upside Down may not only be through Hawkins.
The teaser begins with the standard show entrance before morphing into the world of the Upside Down, where the logo is tangled up in vines as creatures groan. The Upside Down version of Hopper’s cabin seem to linger next to a Welcome To Hawkins sign, near a tree with a clock embedded inside. The ticks of the clock become louder and louder until the message changes: We’re Not In Hawkins Anymore. Bells ring as the message appears, but they’re not school bells that would match with the clock. Instead, they sound like church or clock tower bells.
We can’t decipher what it all means, but the idea that the Upside Down doesn’t only affect Hawkins isn’t much of a surprise. After all, the Russians in Season 3 said that Hawkins was not the only point of entrance they found– it was the strongest one.
We can’t wait to see what Season 4 will bring!
