SUICIDE SQUAD 2 May Have Found a Director in Jaume Collet-Serra

THE SHALLOWS’ Jaume Collet-Serra is the frontrunner to direct SUICIDE SQUAD sequel!

It’s been a while since we’ve heard any news about DC Comics’ Suicide Squad, which hit theatres almost a year ago. A sequel has been in the works for a while, with Mel Gibson originally set to direct, but there were complications with the script which ultimately led to Gibson leaving the project. But never fear! It has just been announced that Jaume Collet-Serra, director of last year’s shark thriller The Shallows, is the top choice to direct Suicide Squad 2, with a new script currently being written.

Warner Bros., the production company behind Suicide Squad, is looking to start production on the film in mid-2018. The first film, which was directed by David Ayer, had a star-studded ensemble cast including Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Will Smith (Deadshot), Jared Leto (The Joker), Cara Delevigne (Enchantress), and Viola Davis (Amanda Waller).

Jaume Collet-Serra first broke into Hollywood with Orphan, and has since directed hits such as Non-Stop, which starred Liam Neeson and Julianne Moore, and The Shallows, which starred Blake Lively. Collet-Serra also directed upcoming film The Commuters, which also stars Liam Neeson.

We’re crossing our fingers that this deal pans out, because Collet-Serra, especially with his background in thrillers, seems like he could deliver a Suicide Squad sequel that is even better than the first.
