Fourteen seasons and a huge, vocal fanbase gave SUPERNATURAL its place in the history books with June 23rd as “Supernatural Day.”

Fans of Supernatural know that stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles were born and raised in the state of Texas. Both gentlemen have been open about the pride they have for their roots. Currently, they reside in Austin with their wives and families–that is, when they’re not up in Vancouver filming Supernatural. Ackles even co-owns (along with his wife, Danneel, and brother-in-law, Gino) a brewery, the Family Business Beer Company, about half an hour from the heart of Austin.

The SPN Family–cast included–is always working on something charitable. On June 23rd, Paws for AKF held a gathering in Austin that was organized by fan Sandra Echeverri. The event raised funds to benefit Austin Pets Alive and (per Padalecki’s request) the National Suicide Prevention Hotline. Silent auctions, door prizes, and 50/50 donation-based drawings were advertised, but as it turns out, there were more surprises to come!

Jared and Genevieve Padalecki, Jensen and Danneel Ackles, and Mayor [of Austin] Steve Adler were all in attendance at San Jac Saloon! And yet, the night just kept on giving.

Mayor Adler has been a supporter of SupernaturalPadalecki, and Ackles for some time. At the charity event, Adler solidified his admiration and appreciation in a huge way. In a proclamation, the mayor officially deemed June 23, 2018, as “Supernatural Day” in the city of Austin. The document goes on to praise Padalecki and Ackles’ years of hard work and the supportive fans of Supernatural:

Fans Lynn Zubernis (editor of fandom-favorite book Family Don’t End with Blood) and Kim Prior (talented photographer) were at the Paws for AKF event, and they kindly shared photos and a video of the experience. A few of their captured memories even made it onto the local news in Austin!
