Prepare for magic as THE WITCHLANDS is being developed for television!

Susan Dennard’s bestselling series The Witchlands is headed to the small screen!

The Jim Henson Company is developing the live-action series based on the popular books, but don’t worry– there won’t be any muppets hanging around.

The series follows two teens, Safi and Iseult, with magical powers known as “witchery” who find themselves on the run after clashing with a powerful, dangerous foe. They just want to keep themselves safe, but the strength of Safi’s powers makes them both targets. With three nations on the verge of war and a pandemic sweeping across the land, they’ll need to channel their powers and take on the world together to make it out alive.

According to Deadline, The Jim Henson Company’s Creature Shop will get to have some fun creating the series’s dark monsters and strange creatures.

“The Witchlands features a world of magic and astonishing characters that our Creature Shop can sink its teeth into and bring to life in an exciting and fresh way,” Jim Henson Company President of Television, Halle Stanford, told the publication. “These books fulfill our desire to dive deep into a high fantasy world a la Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones, where the women are the heroes and the world itself is seen through a feminine lens.”

The series is still in the early stages of production and most details remain a mystery.
