Suzanne Collins’ THE HUNGER GAMES Prequel Gets Title and Cover Reveal

Good Morning America has always been a popular place for book and movie reveals and this morning, they featured a doozy: The title and cover to Suzanne Collins‘ highly anticipated The Hunger Games prequel novel!

Set 64 years before The Hunger Games, the new novel will follow characters through the “Dark Days,” the period after the massive war between the districts and the Capitol that the latter ultimately won. The details are very scarce, but we were previously given a release date of May 19, 2020.

Check out the reveal below:

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes may fall a little too much into the current YA book title trend (A/The ___ of ____ and ___), but it’s definitely foreboding! The songbird in question is the mockingjay, a symbol of hope in Panem. Of course, snakes represent dark intentions and betrayal. Knowing the history of the games, it seems like this novel’s “mockingjay” is in for a world of trouble.

We really appreciate how the central cover design looks like the very early, more natural stages of a mockingjay pin!

There still isn’t an official synopsis, but you can already preorder The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes now via Amazon or support your local independent bookstore via Indiebound!
