Hey demigods, if any of you live in the Orlando, FL area head on down to the Orlando Museum of Art for a special exhibition featuring John Rocco, the amazing artist behind our wonderful PJATO and HoO covers!
Here’s what Orlando Museum of Art has to say,
This exhibition, the 8th in the OMA’s annual Art of the Picture Book Series, will feature approximately 60 preparatory drawings and finished illustrations by John Rocco, best known for creating the cover art for Rick Riordan’s bestselling youth literature series, Percy Jackson and the Olympians and The Kane Chronicles. Rocco has also illustrated a number of books for younger readers such as Alice, an interpretation of Alice in Wonderland as retold by actor and comedian Whoopi Goldberg. In addition, Rocco has served as author and illustrator for several popular picture books including Wolf! Wolf!, Moonpowder, Fu Finds the Way and the 2012 Caldecott Honor Book Blackout. Most recently, Rocco created the illustrations for The Flint Heart, the latest book by Katherine Paterson, Newbery Medal-winning author, and John Paterson. Rocco is enthusiastic about providing young visitors with insight into his creative process and plans to include in the exhibition examples of rough sketches and preparatory drawings to show how an illustration evolves from early concept to finished work.
The exhibition runs from now until October, so no worries if you can’t get there right away!
