The CW talks Possible Seaon 9 for ‘SUPERNATURAL’ and Castiel Spinoff

Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki as brothers Dean and Sam Winchester

The CW’s president, Mark Pedowitz, got to talk about the network’s delight with the ratings of some of its shows, one of them being, of course, ‘Supernatural.’  So, with that said, will Supernatural continue after this season?  Plus, here’s something that’s come out of these talks as well – Castiel (Misha Collins) to have his own show??

Pedowitz tells Zap2it that Warner Bros. has finalized deals with Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki for the next two potential seasons, which is definitely a good sign for the future of the series. The CW plans to make a final decision about Season 9 based on the show’s ratings when it returns from winter hiatus on January 16.

With the recent announcement of a “Vampire Diaries” spinoff backdoor pilot, there have been some questions from fans as to whether The CW would consider a potential “Supernatural” spin-off based on Castiel (Misha Collins). Pedowitz explained that “Supernatural” may not be the best launchpad for another series.

Misha Collins as Castiel

“You look at [whether the] audience is engaged. You look at that universe — can it actually launch something? ‘Supernatural’ if you decide to do a spin-off off of that, you [question] does it work? Does it incubate the show really well?” Pedowitz explains.

I know a few people who certainly wouldn’t mind seeing more of Misha Collins.  Here’s the thing.  If introducing a new show is risky, how much more risky is it to introduce a spinoff?  Certainly, one successful show does not a successful spinoff make.  (Sorry, my Yoda speak is a little rusty.)

What do you think?  It might be a silly question, but what do you think of a Castiel series?  And do you think Supernatural has enough juice for a Season 9? A Season 10?
