The CW’s ‘ARROW’ and ‘SUPERNATURAL’ Among Those Getting Early Renewals

cw-logoHow many of you are ready for more awesomesauce (a term I did not invent)?  ‘Supernatural’ will have a Season 9 and ‘Arrow’ will be back for a Sophomore season!  Another show that got an early renewal is ‘The Vampire Diaries.’

The CW has given early pickups to its three strongest series — breakout freshman Arrow, flagship The Vampire Diaries and veteran Supernatural, which has had a resurgence paired with Arrow this season. All three shows hail from Warner Bros TV and will return in fall 2013. It will be a fifth season for Vampire Diaries and ninth for Supernatural. The renewal for Supernatural became possible after stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles inked rich new multi-season deals last year. “We said last year that one of our goals was to establish building blocks to grow on, and now with our new hit Arrow and fan favorite Supernatural on Wednesday night, and the continued success of The Vampire Diaries on Thursday, we’ve been able to do that,” said CW president Mark Pedowitz. “Not only do Arrow, Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries perform well on-air, they’re also extremely successful for us both digitally and socially.”

This season’s ‘Supernatural’ started off a little rocky, I think, but certainly picked up some steam in after the mid-season break and with the interesting storyline that’s been brought up and the boys finally having a place to call “home,” this show can actually see a revival of sorts for the next 2 seasons if they play their cards right.  It definitely helped that Stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki are already signed on for up to Season 10 (you know they just love working together – they’re like parabatai), in which I hope they will be able to conclude the series in a fitting manner that properly ends the show strong and correctly.

In regards to Arrow, this show has tons and tons of potential.  The actors involved are seem to take on their characters well, especially Stephen Amell as “The Hood.”  Plus, it helps that the villains are already created and just need some fine tuning both in writing and in appearance to give them the gritty realism that we love about this DC-based show.  Like many DC fans out there who are just drawn into the show, it’s exciting to see how they bring up the characters, how they create them into the masked vigilantes/heroes/antiheroes/villains that are loved in the comics.

Arrow posted The CW’s best series premiere since 2009 and currently stands as the network’s most watched show (4.3 million). The Vampire Diaries remains The CW’s highest-rated series in target demographics, including adults 18-34 and women 18-34, and is big hit in social media. Airing behind Arrow this season, Supernatural has seen its ratings go up 15% among total viewers from last season, 10% in adults 18-34 and 18% in adults 18-49.
