It seems that superheroes have finally come into it’s own, and in a much more respectful nod to its source material, on not only the big screen, but on the small screen as well. If you’re a fan of Daredevil, you know you’ve been wanting a remake (with a completely new cast) of the Ben Affleck movie just to wash out the bad taste in your mouth. You may not get it in theaters, but this might actually be a better solution.
Per Marvel, Vincent D’Donofrio has joined the cast of Daredevil as Wilson Fisk aka The Kingpin. D’Onofrio’s iteration of the villain is officially described as, “a powerful businessman whose interests in the future of Hell’s Kitchen will bring him into conflict with the blind attorney Matt Murdock and his alter ego Daredevil.” The character was previously played by Michael Clarke Duncan in the failed 2003 feature film iteration. D’Onofrio most recently starred on the procedural TV series Law & Order: SVU for a decade, and he also has a key role in the upcoming sequel Jurassic World.
Vincent D’Onofio as Kingpin. Why does that sound awesomely perfect? Well, at least to me it does. D’Onofrio is spectacularly talented (see Full Metal Jacket, The Cell, Law & Order: Criminal Intent – despite what the quote says), and the role of Wilson Fisk, genius manipulator and most fearsome crime lord, just seems like something that D’Onofrio would be able to sink his teeth into.
Charlie Cox will be playing the protagonist, blind man Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil. The series will air on Netflix starting 2015.
