The iconic spot where Hazel Grace Lancaster and Augustus Waters share an important moment in Amsterdam is looking a little bleaker these days.
Thieves have stolen the bench on which a major scene in the film occurred. While it may be the work of vandals or neighbors unhappy with the rising amount of tourists in the Leidsdegracht area, the city believes it was overzealous fans of the film.
The city plans to have the bench replaced within a few weeks, but the bench was missing for at least a month before officials took notice.
“It’s a bit embarrassing, because we do keep good track of them, but it’s gone all right,” said city spokesman Stephan van der Hoek. “Keep your eyes on eBay.”
