For a third week straight The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug has earned the top spot at the box office, taking in an additional $29.9 million this weekend. This brings the film’s domestic total to $190 million, and worldwide haul to just over $614 million.
Disney’s Frozen came in a close second earning $28.8 million, making its domestic gross $248 million. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire took the 8th place this weekend earning and additional $10 million in its 6th week in theaters, putting it on track to surpass the domestic haul of the first film, with only $17 million more needed to reach The Hunger Games’ North American total of $408 million. Catching Fire surpassed it’s predecessor’s worldwide earning a few weeks ago.
