Academy Award winner Tilda Swinton is zeroing in on a role in Marvel’s DOCTOR STRANGE alongside Benedict Cumberbatch!
Benedict Cumberbatch’s Stephen Strange has reportedly found his mentor in Tilda Swinton!
The actress, who won an Oscar in 2008 for her role in MICHAEL CLAYTON, is in negotiations to play The Ancient One, the Tibetan mystic who serves as Stephen Strange’s mentor and trains hopefuls who may become the next Sorcerer Supreme.
In the comics, The Ancient One is typically an Asian male. Earlier casting rumors indicate that Marvel did look into both male and Asian options, but ultimately went for something a little different. Both Marvel and their rival comic-movie rival DC have not been shy about mixing up characters’ identities to create something unique, so if you’re going to go that route, you might as well snatch up an amazing, award-winning actress right?!
Swinton is also known for her roles in CONSTANTINE, SNOWPIERCER, MOONRISE KINGDOM, and THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA films.
