Tom Hardy Drops Out of SUICIDE SQUAD

Sadly, Tom Hardy has dropped out of Suicide Squad, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  He was cast to play Suicide Squad leader Rick Flagg in the David Ayer directed film.

It seems that, due to The Revenant filming taking longer than originally planned, Tom may have had to bow out because of it.  The Revenant also stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Hardy’s co-star in Inception, and is being directed by Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu.  So it’s probably a big deal for all involved.

With Hardy gone, word has it that David Ayer is looking to replace Hardy with Jake Gyllenhaal, who made an absolutely gripping performance in the movie Nightcrawler.  Don’t let the gaunt look that he had in Nightcrawler fool you.  His physicality has changed dramatically since then as he’s gained all that weight back and then some to film Southpaw, which is not in post-production.

Still, it’s hard not to be disappointed with not having Hardy lead the all-star cast, even if Gyllenhaal, talented as he is, were to take the role.  Maybe it’s his resonating voice that makes him prime material for the job.  Oh well.

It’s still a stellar cast considering Will Smith (Deadshot), Jared Leto (The Joker), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), and Cara Delevigne (Enchantress) are still signed on.
