Marvel and Sony have found their new Spider-Man actor, who is set to join the MCU!
After many rumors and lots of debate, Tom Holland is the new pick for Spider-Man! The 19-year-old British actor is best known for his roles in THE IMPOSSIBLE, HOW I LIVE NOW, and WOLF HALL.
Tom Rothman, the chairman of Sony Motion Pictures, had this to say about the casting:
“For Spidey himself, we saw many terrific young actors, but Tom’s screen tests were special. All in all, we are off to a roaring start.”
Popular rumors had Tom Holland going up against Nat Wolff, Asa Butterfield, Timothee Chalamet, and Liam James, among others, for the role of Peter Parker.
Spider-man will reportedly have a very small role in Marvel’s CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR before a re-boot of the superhero franchise (minus the origin story) is set to begin in a joint effort from Sony and Marvel. The first standalone film is set for a July 28, 2017 release.
He’ll be seen next in Ron Howard’s IN THE HEART OF THE SEA starring Chris Hemsworth.
