THE WALKING DEAD Episode 6.11 | “Knots Untie” recap

The Walking Dead world gets bigger in “Knots Untie” recap

We have your “Knots Untie” recap from The Walking Dead, which introduces us to Jesus’s community at the Hilltop colony.

Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green) and Abraham (Michael Cudlitz) come in from patrolling the walls. Abraham is still surprised about all that’s happened, including Maggie being pregnant. And Sasha tells him that she’s starting a new shift so that Eugene can take over her patrol with him. Abraham is definitely feeling awkward now. Sexual tension prevails!

After some apparently good lovemaking with Rosita (Christian Serratos), Rosita gives him a necklace that she made, but he can’t stop thinking about Sasha.

It’s night and Maggie (Lauren Cohan) is working on the tomato garden when Glenn (Steven Yeun) comes by. She’s worried that nothing has grown yet, but Glenn reassures her. They are then distracted by something going on at Rick’s house and head over.

twd-knots-untie-09Jesus (Tom Payne) is in the hallway sitting on the steps when Carl (Chandler Riggs) pulls a gun on him. Jesus tells him he’s waiting for Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) to get dressed, calling them Carl’s mom and dad. Carl has a perplexed look on his face and then a shirtless Rick and Michonne come out of his bedroom, and Rick is clearly feeling awkward seeing Carl there. Then Daryl (Norman Reedus), Glenn, and Abraham storm in with their guns pointed at Jesus as well.

Jesus tells them he knows they’re armed, but they are in need of provisions. He tries to make amends and tells them he’s from a similar place and that he’s in charge of looking for other settlements to trade with. They are obviously trepidatious, but he wants to show them his settlement and what they have to offer, which is about a day’s drive away.

As a group of them get set to go on the trip, Denise (Merritt Wever) brings Daryl a snack to eat for the drive, saying that he reminds her of someone she used to know. Rick approaches Carl about what he saw earlier, but Carl is cool with Rick and Michonne. Carl tells Rick he’s not going, he wants to keep watch in Alexandria while the rest of them go.

Abraham asks Glenn if the pregnancy was planned (in his words, ”When you were, uh, pouring the Bisquick, were you trying to make pancakes?”) and why they would do that during this time. Glenn explains they’re trying to build a new world.  Rick, driving, shows a little PDA towards Michonne, riding shotgun.

They see a recently crashed car with two fresh walkers, and Jesus says it’s from his group. Rick pulls a gun on him thinking it could be a trap, but Jesus is distressed. They follow tracks to an office building.

Rick, Michonne, Glenn, Abraham, and Daryl go into the building, while Maggie keeps a gun on Jesus. They find walkers in there, but there are also survivors, so Jesus wasn’t lying. One of them, Harlan Carson (R. Keith Harris) is a doctor and Glenn and Maggie are very relieved.

They arrive at the Hilltop colony. After a mild standoff at the gates, they’re let in with their weapons. The Hilltop looks well-lived-in, with gardens and even chickens, a swordsmith working in the forge and building spears and knives—since they have no guns or ammo—and a history museum, the Barrington House. They have trailers where people live in.

They meet Gregory (Xander Berkeley), the Hilltop’s leader, in the Barrington House, which houses more people. Gregory comes off as cocky and anal, interrupting Rick when he tries to introduce himself and insisting that they get cleaned up to make themselves more presentable. Rick reluctantly agrees, but wants Maggie to talk to Gregory afterwards because he knows he can’t deal with the guy, and he wants Maggie to step up.

Abraham asks Daryl about settling down, but Daryl deflects.

Maggie goes to talk to Gregory and from the very beginning, he tries to act like the better. They ask each other details about their communities. Maggie’s talking trade, but Gregory knows they don’t have anything. He wants to have some of the Alexandrians to come and work for their share, including Maggie. He tries to be coy with her, but Maggie doesn’t want to deal with his BS. He decides to stop the talk with her, knowing he has is needed more.

Rick not-so-subtly tells Jesus that they’re going to get food, whether or not Gregory agrees to trade. Jesus asks for a few days to deal with Gregory to work something out. Michonne okays it and Rick agrees.

Some people from the Hilltop come back from a visit to Negan’s. Gregory goes outside to ask about some people that are missing from the returning group, and the guy, Ethan (Justin Kucsulain), tells him two of them were killed by Negan’s group. Gregory said they had a deal, but another returning group member, Andy (Jeremy Palko), said it wasn’t enough, and that Negan still has another Hilltop member named Craig. Ethan stabs Gregory in the stomach as a message from Negan, and an assurance that if Gregory is killed, they can get back Craig, who happens to be Ethan’s brother. Rick pulls Ethan away, but the group gets into the melee with them, and Rick stabs Ethan in the neck, killing him.

The girl from Ethan’s group punches Rick, so Michonne knocks her easily to the ground. Jesus stops them all, preventing more bloodshed.

Gregory survived the stab, and Abraham loses Rosita’s necklace in the melee.

Jesus tells Rick about Negan and his group, the Saviors. He recalls first encounter with Negan, and how Negan beat to death a 16-year-old. Jesus explains to Rick that Gregory agreed to send Negan half of their supplies and Negan agreed not to kill them all.

Rick and Daryl offer to kill Negan and his men, and save Craig, and in exchange, the Hilltop community will hook them up with food, medicine, and a cow. Jesus says he’ll let Gregory know. Maggie knows this is going to cost them something.

Gregory wants only to talk to Maggie. She negotiates for half of what he has right now since she knows how Negan is manipulating the deal he’s made with Gregory. Gregory agrees to the deal.

Rick talks with Andy and tells him they need him since he knows Negan’s compound. Andy agrees to go with them. And Jesus also goes.

Maggie and Glenn see Dr. Carson and get an ultrasound of the baby, which they show the rest of the group on their trip back to Alexandria.
