“Always Accountable” brings up self-control issues for Abraham and Sasha
The recent episode of The Walking Dead, titled “Always Accountable,” focuses on Abraham (Michael Cudlitz), Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green), and Daryl (Norman Reedus) as they head back to the Alexandria community. But since nothing ever goes as planned for Rick’s group, they come across some trouble on the way. Here’s my recap:
We see Daryl, Abraham and Sasha leaving the massive zombie parade behind. They’ve successfully lured the walkers away from the Alexandria community. But suddenly, they’re being shot at. The shooters are in vehicles, ready to take them down. Abraham and Sasha shoot back at one of the cars, killing the driver with many bullets, but they’ve also crashed their car.
Daryl is separated from them, but he has evaded the second car. He drops to the ground, lying exhausted and wounded. We can only assume he’s taken a quick breather before we see him now walking his bike. He’s obviously still exhausted, in pain, and bleeding. He tries to contact Abraham and Sasha, but no luck.
Hearing something, he hides his bike to check out the noise. He gets jumped by two girls and a guy – Honey (Christine Evangelista), Tina (Liz E. Morgan), and D (Austin Amelio). He wakes up with hands bound and a gun to his face. They start walking through a burned part of the woods, where the trio burned a bunch of walkers. Daryl says he’ll make a deal with them if they let him go, but the Dwight clearly does not accept the deal and tells Daryl to keep moving.
They arrive at a spot they were supposed to pick up someone else, apparently. Tina tells them to leave her and she drops to the ground. At this point, Daryl takes off with their bag and the guy shoots several times at him, missing. Soon after his escape, he pulls his crossbow from the bag to take out an approaching walker, which he does, but then sees the cooler labeled insulin in the bag.
Abraham and Sasha find an abandoned town. Abraham sees a walker in the distance and is about to go after it. But Sasha tells him not to, as it’s basically leaves a trail for some unknown to get them. They go into one of the buildings and Sasha has written Daryl’s last name on the door in the hopes he finds them there.
The building is empty, with the exception of a walker stuck in a what looks like a conference room with a clear view as the wall separating it from Abraham and Sasha is clear plexiglass. Abraham and Sasha talk about their self-control issues, him pointing out her lack of it from when they first arrived in Alexandria with her seemingly self-destructive state of mind, and her talking about his lack of control now. Somehow what she says gets to Abraham and he says he’ll reassess in the morning.
Daryl gets back to the three and gives them their bag, because that’s how he is. Before he can split ways with them, a truck comes crashing through the woods. Daryl hides, but the three stand their ground. It is clear that the three know the men in the vehicle, calling out two of their first names, Wade and Cam.
Before the rest of the men in the vehicle can come out to get them, Daryl is able to get the three to follow him. They hide and as Cam is about to find them, he gets bit by a walker stuck in a vehicle that he passes. Wade chops Cam’s arm off, telling him to walk it off. (From what you can see, it doesn’t seem like there’s any Ws on their fore heads to show they’re part of the Wolves.) No searching for the trio now. Tina is having problems and Honey injects her with the insulin. D admits he thought Daryl was part of Wade and Cam’s group. They themselves had been with the group from the beginning, but there’s too many of them to keep track of. Things got worse for them in the group so they bailed. .
Abraham goes walking around the town. He finds a rocket case and a box of cigars. He also finds another walker impaled on a downed fence that hangs over the ledge of the bridge. The walker has the actual RPG-7 launcher strapped to its back. What he was about to do with the walker, he doesn’t, seeing the uniform on him, apparently bringing memories of his past to light. As Abraham sits to try one of the stogies, he sees the walker move around enough that it’s loosed from the fence, falling away, and leaving the launcher hanging.
Abraham gets back to where Sasha is.with the launcher and other stuff and proposes they stay there and live their life together, saying that he wants to get to know Sasha even more. She kind of laughs it off… kind of.
Daryl talks to the three about the Alexandria community, assessing that they might want to go with him there.. They seem interested. They come across two bodies, whom they knew, and Tina tries to put flowers on them, but they’re walkers and they bite her before Daryl can get to them.
Tina dies and they bury her while they bury her, Daryl offers them sanctuary at Alexandria.
Whey they get to Daryl’s bike, the guy pulls the gun on him and he gives them his crossbow, and they take his bike.
Honey, with gun still drawn on him, says sorry, and Daryl says, “You’re gonna be.”
Daryl double backs and finds a fuel truck, license plate with the name “Patty” in it – the truck that the trio was apparently hoping to find earlier. He eventually finds Abraham and Sasha at the abandoned town, where Abraham now dons a dress blue jacket.
As they drive back to Alexandria, Abraham still in the jacket, Daryl tries to get Rick on the radio, and some unknown voice says “Help.”
And that’s the end. “Always Accountable” dealt more with what was under the surface of these characters, especially Abraham and his past, but had moment for all three of them in this episode. It’s always interesting to see these sort of episodes intermixed with the more action-packed and violent-filled ones.
Of course, now we’re wondering, who responded back?! Who called for help? Was it Rick? Was is Glenn?! Was it a traip?! We might find out in the next episode, but the question that’s been lingering for weeks now is about our favorite pizza guy, and we may finally get to find out what actually happened to Glenn! Whether it was him on the radio or not may be answered at the same time. But we only until tomorrow to find out!
