Ghost Rider makes his debut in a new image and footage from Season 4 of AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.!

It was previously revealed that Ghost Rider aka Robbie Reyes, played by Gabriel Luna, would have a central role in the upcoming season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and today we finally get our first look at the character. And he definitely does not disappoint. Check out the image below:

This image shows Ghost Rider in a junkyard, looking perfectly at home. Though his famous car is nowhere to be seen in the picture. However, Marvel later released footage of the car, in the style of a cellphone video, giving fans a hint as to what Robbie’s legendary ride will look like:

This Ghost Rider is a little different than the original, Johnny Blaze, but showrunners Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen have said that Robbie Reyes is better suited to this show. Robbie, a young latino man who must care for his little brother, should fit well into Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., as the show is known for its complex characters – that is, no one on this show is all good or all bad.

Regardless of this, Ghost Rider’s addition will change the scientifically-centred show, which is something that the executive producers kept in mind when creating this storyline. With Doctor Strange entering into the MCU soon, Whedon says that, “a different part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is going to be opened up,” and that Robbie Reyes, “plays in that world.” He also said that this was Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s way of ‘dipping their toes’ into the world of magic.

But the Shield team is already dealing with a lot this upcoming season, including gaining a new Director, played by Jason O’Mara, the disappearance of teammate Daisy Johnson (Chloe Bennet), and some battling loyalties amongst the group, and so the addition of magic may be the thing that really throws the team over the edge.

However, don’t take this new-found magic as something that is going to completely change the show. Tanchareon says that the team (though we suspect that FitzSimmons will be leading this charge), “will basically be trying to science ‘Why?'”

Though it looks like we will start of this season with our team somewhat in splinters, I am excited to see what Ghost Rider will bring to the show, and I am sure that somehow the team will find their way back to each other.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns to ABC Tuesday September 20th at 10|9c.
