The lovely ladies of Cinderella describe their characters
Lily James, Helena Bonham Carter, and Cate Blanchett are three of the lovely ladies that will grace the big screen in the live-action retelling of Cinderella. And we can’t wait! Each one has their own unique role in the movie, and although their characters are very different from one another, they all seem to play them beautifully.
Lily James plays the title role of the movie, although the character’s true name is Ella. She explains how the idea of being a princess is always a dream for many young girls and for her to be able to play is like a dream come true.
Helena Bonham Carter explains the challenges of playing and bringing to live-action the image of the Fairy Godmother. She also talks about the make-up and costume challenges in creating their version of her character.
For Cate Blanchett, it was figuring out what makes the wicked stepmother, Lady Tremaine, wicked, especially in comparison to the good and kind and beautiful Cinderella. She also dishes on the dance scene between Richard Madden’s Prince and James’s Cinderella, and working with director Kenneth Branagh.
