ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL follows a loner forced to befriend the terminally ill girl next door.
Sundance darling ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL stuck a big chord with audiences. It won both of the festival’s highest honors– the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award– and then sold to FOX Searchlight for a Sundance record of $12 million. Now you can watch the first trailer!
Thomas Mann (BEAUTIFUL CREATURES) stars as Greg Gaines, a teen so non-committal and anti-social that he refers to his lifelong best friend Earl (newcomer RJ Cyler) as a “co-worker” because they create parodies of popular movies together in their spare time. But when Greg’s parents learn that his childhood friend Rachel (Olivia Cooke) has been diagnosed with leukemia, he’s asked to reluctantly add yet another companion into his life. Will befriending Rachel change Greg’s life for the better or worse?
Based on the YA book and a script by Jesse Andrews, ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL seems to take some jabs at the “cancer romance” genre, but if you watch the first trailer, you’ll see that it still aims for a genuine take on friendship and the struggles caused by the disease.
ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL will be released in select US theaters on June 12, 2015 and in the UK on September 11, 2015. The book is out now and currently on sale for $5.99!
