Though many fans of Scott Westerfeld’s Uglies books had hoped a screen adaptation would come much sooner than this for fear of people losing interest, an adaptation has arrived nonetheless, with the requisite poster and trailer.
With it, we also have the Netflix storyline:
In a futuristic world that imposes a cosmetic surgery at 16, Tally is eager for her turn to join the rest of society. But when a friend runs away, Tally embarks on a journey to save her that upends everything she thought she wanted.
Not a stranger to book adaptations, Uglies stars Joey King (The Kissing Booth films) as Tally Youngblood, the protagonist of the story. Co-starring with her are Chase Stokes (Outer Banks) as Peris, Jan Luis Castellanos (13 Reasons Why) as Croy, Brianne Tju (Three Months) as Shay, Jillian Murray (Code Black) as Ellie Youngblood, and Laverne Cox (Orange is the New Black) as Dr. Cable.
Uglies is directed by McG (Not Dead Yet, Supernatural), and the movie will premiere on Netflix on September 13, 2025.
