Dark and twisty DC Comics series WATCHMEN headed to television!
HBO is heading into the comic book entertainment game, and they’re working to get a massive comic fan to take the lead.
The network is currently developing Watchmen, a conspiracy-ridden murder mystery in a world filled with superheroes created by DC Comics.
THR reports that Damon Lindelof, best known for his shows Lost and The Leftovers, is in talks to become showrunner, though the deal hasn’t been ironed out quite yet. Lindelof has been a Watchmen superfan since childhood.
“From the flashbacks to the nonlinear storytelling to the deeply flawed heroes, these are all elements that I try to put into everything I write,” Lindelof said of the comics in a 2009 interview with Comic Book Resources.
Zack Snyder directed a highly-stylized Watchmen movie in 2009, which failed to meet expectations at the box office. He was originally part of the board to develop the television series when it began in 2015, but has since dropped out of the project.
The show is reportedly close to production, but there’s no word yet on when it will air.
