REBEL OF THE SANDS may come to the big screen thanks to Willow Smith!
Alwyn Hamilton‘s Rebel of the Sands trilogy has been making big waves among young adult readers, and they haven’t gone unnoticed in Hollywood.
Actress/producer Willow Smith has snagged the rights to the trilogy under her MSFTS Production banner in conjunction with Cartel Entertainment. According to The Bookseller, Smith hopes to star in the project as well.
The trilogy follows Amani, a 17-year-old sharpshooter living in the mythical desert nation of Miraji who finds herself on the run from the Sultan’s army and enchanted beasts alike after escaping her hometown with a mysterious fugitive. The first book hit shelves in Spring 2016, followed by its sequel, Traitor To The Throne, which was released last month. Book three is expected out sometime in 2018.
“The nonphysical, creative, and wild nature of a female heroine’s journey calls for a unique narrative structure that permeates the very foundation of the story. Enjoy the ride,” said Smith, giving us hopes for an interesting take on the story for the big screen.
With the rights just having been optioned, there’s no guarantee quite yet that the film will come to fruition. We’ll cross our fingers and keep you updated!
