New “first look” photos from X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX were released earlier today and Sophie Turner is on fire!
Entertainment Weekly released these stunning X-Men: Dark Phoenix photos that feature Game of Thrones’ Sophie Turner all afire as she is transformed from her Jean Grey character to her altar ego Dark Phoenix.
According to director/producer/writer Simon Kinberg, he took extra time to work on the visual effects in post-production to get the Phoenix look right.
“I wanted the post time to deliver on the nuance of the visual effects, not just the scale of them. That takes time.”
In the following images, we see the concept art of Turner’s Jean Grey transformed into Phoenix.
At the beginning of the film, the team is dispatched on a rescue mission but a solar flare hits the X-Jet. Jean uses her power to save the team but the extreme surge of energy unlocks the Phoenix.
We also see Jennifer Lawrence as Raven/Mystique and her somewhat changed look for her blue-skinned character.
“She’s more maternal which surprised me. She starts to get more protective of the [school] children and Charles wants to push them to prove to the world that mutants can be good for humanity and I just see them as small children.”
Another photo shows Charles Xavier (James McAvoy), Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee), Scott Summers/Cyclops (Tye Sheridan), and Ororo Munroe/Storm (Alexandra Shipp) attending what looks to be a funeral.
Plus, we get a look at Jessica Chastain as the villain of the movie, a shapeshifter who plays her character with a calm brutality.
“Simon and I were talking about the character and I said, ‘I keep thinking of the vet who tells you you need to put your dog down,'” says the actress of her inspiration. “There’s something very clinical about it.”
X-Men: Dark Phoenix is set to invade theaters November 2, 2018.
