GROWN-ISH Star Yara Shahidi to take lead in THE SUN IS ALSO A STAR Movie

Yara Shahidi, star of GROWN-ISH, is in talks to play the lead role in the movie adaptation of Nicola Yoon’s THE SUN IS ALSO A STAR.

Despite what people think of movie adaptations, they happen often. And we’re happy to say that the movie adaptation of Nicola Yoon’s The Sun is Also a Star is happening, and that they’ve found their main girl in Yara Shahidi.

Yara Shahidi is in negotiations to play Natasha, one of the main characters in Nicola Yoon’s 2016 bestseller, who’s twelve hours away from being deported along with her family to Jamaica. Then she meets a boy.

What happens during that day is narrated throughout the book between Natasha and the boy, Daniel, who’s dealing with his own problems.

The book is being adapted for Alloy Entertainment, MGM, and Warner Bros., the same studios that were responsible for the adaptation of Yoon’s first book, Everything, Everything, which starred Amandla Stenberg and Nick Robinson.

Shahidi is an excellent choice for the role of Natasha, considering her awesome performance as Zoey Johnson in both Black-ish and her character’s own spinoff Grown-ish.

Author Nicola said this on her Instagram about the casting:

Wahoo!!! I’m so over-the-moon thrilled about this!! @yarashahidi is not only a completely brilliant actress, she’s a tireless advocate & activist. She’s gonna be the perfect Natasha!!!

We second that! The book is amazing and we can’t wait to see Yara make Natasha her own, beautiful big hair and all! Of course, we’ll probably have to wait a little bit longer to see who will play Daniel, the Korean love interest who narrates the other half of the story.
