Zachary Levi signs up for the lead in DC’s SHAZAM!

‘Heroes Reborn’ star Zachary Levi has signed on to the DC Universe to play the world’s mightiest mortal, SHAZAM!

It was announced earlier today that Chuck and Heroes Reborn star Zachary Levi has moved on from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where he plays Fandral, Thor’s ally and friend in Thor 2: The Dark World and the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok, and he’ll be heading into the DC Cinematic Universe to play the titular character in Shazam!

Shazam is the alter ego of Billy Batson, a troubled youth who was given the powers of the “immortal elders,” Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles and Mercury (S.H.A.Z.A.M.) Once Billy speaks the acronym, he turns into an adult superhero.

Zachary posted on his Instagram an artist’s awesome rendition of Levi as Shazam, with a message of thanks:

Zachary’s other recent credits include reprising his (voice) role as Eugene Fitzherbert aka Flynn Rider for Tangled: The Series, playing Jeremiah Pontelli in Netflix’s Alias Grace, being the voice of Joseph in the upcoming animated featured film The Star, and will star as Adam Nusbaum in the upcoming zombie-comedy Office Uprising. He is currently filming the TV movie Psych: The Movie, where he plays Thin White Duke.

David F. Sandberg, who directed the horror films Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation, will be taking the helm for New Line Cinema.
