Zendaya’s SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING character isn’t who we originally expected!
Major fan speculation about Zendaya’s character in Spider-Man: Homecoming is all wrong, according to The Wrap.
Back in March, the KC Undercover and Shake It Up actress was cast in a role that was only dubbed “Michelle.” Many people took this to mean she’d be playing a high school version of Spider-Man character Michele Gonzales, a tough-as-nails defense attorney as well as Peter’s roommate and occasional love interest in comics covering his adult years.
However, sources close to the production told The Wrap that the “Michelle” title is just a ruse. Zendaya will reportedly be playing Peter Parker’s most famous love interest, Mary Jane Watson, though their sources did not confirm whether or not their blossoming love story will be featured in the film.
We’re hoping for a stronger, more pro-active Mary Jane than the one we got in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy (in which Kirsten Dunst took on the role,) and if Comic-Con footage in any indication, the filmmakers want the same thing.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is due to hit theaters on July 7, 2017.
